Kalatás - an old Filipino word that is rarely used today. It means a letter, or it may refer also to a white paper that contains a written message. In contextual usage, it can be a written missive sent out for public communication.

It is derived from the Latin word “charta”, and from the Ancient Greek word χάρτης (khártēs, “papyrus, paper”).

About the “why”

It started with the curiosity when Baybayin discoveries were being posted in the social media. Almost at the same time, when the calligraphy art is getting more popular for the young. Much of the Philippines pre-colonial documents are lost. Even worse, the system of writing in our own alphabet is gone. But now, there is a glimmer of interest to revive it; however, widely throughout the country.

So, this project aims to add, as my contribution, to the few efforts of re-educating us with Baybayin as one of the Filipino writings. This does not mean eliminating what we know now. I advocate to learn what we had (and lost) in the past, together with enhancing the knowledge and tools what we have, now that we have the freedom to do so...
